The Mamaroneck Board of Education approved the appointment of Larry Keane to interim assistant principal at Hommocks Middle School. Mr. Keane, who served as Hommocks’ assistant principal for more than a decade until retiring in 2009, takes over for Edgar McIntosh, who announced earlier this summer that he’ll be assuming the principal position at Ardsley Middle School.

Before he became assistant principal, Mr. Keane taught science at Hommocks for 28 years and served as science department chairman. “Mr. Keane is the ideal choice to fill the interim assistant principal position,” attested Hommocks principal Dr. Seth Weitzman. “He has a stellar reputation with students, parents and staff, earned from almost four decades at Hommocks. He understands the job and has accomplished the role with excellence.”
So - unemployment at 9.5% ant the only qualified principals and APs in the nation are pensioners ? what am I missing ? Is that the best that a search can yield ?
Why just an Assistant? Why not make him full Fledged Principal there?
Afterall, he certainly paid his dues more than anyone else on the list and was always well liked by the students.
Plus he was a basketball coach many years ago at MHS.
