Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Thomas E. O’Brien

Thomas E. O’Brien of Fort Pierce, Florida, formerly of Larchmont, died January 9th after a long illness. The only child of the late Mary and Peter O’Brien of Mahanoy City PA, Tom was born March 21, 1927.

He was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point NY (class of 1944,  the last of the wartime cadets), Georgetown University Schools of Foreign Service and Law, and was a Commander U.S. Naval Reserve Retired, having served in the Korean conflict. Before retiring Tom had been an attorney in private practice in Manhattan, New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Queens. Among his favorite work was with two USMMA sponsored 12-metre America’s Cup syndicates, Courageous and America II.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Margaret Attwood O’Brien of Salisbury CT and Catherine O’Brien Yaffa, her husband Richard and their two children Jessica Gould Yaffa and Douglas Charles Yaffa of Harrison and by his former wife Patricia Gould O’Brien (Patty) of Larchmont.

Burial at sea in Florida was private. Memorial Service is Saturday, January 22 at 11 AM at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont.
